Fred Martin Superstore Supports ACCESS, Inc. For Final “The Jewelry Box” Fundraising Weekend

November 23rd, 2022 by

Fred Martin Superstore is thrilled to have sponsored Access, Inc’s annual and unique fundraising weekend, “The Jewelry Box” for the seventh and final year of the event.   This year’s event took place over the course of 3 days the first weekend in November at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn.

The event included over 25,000 thousand pieces of donated jewelry, both costume and fine. All costume jewelry was $5 per piece or less and was professionally displayed, and silent auction items were available online ahead of the event, as well as some beautiful jewelry items.

The fun weekend of fundraising kicked off on Thursday with a ticketed “Happy Hour” event where specialty cocktails and appetizers were served. Music played while guests had their first crack at the jewelry items.  On Friday, there was a new “Treasure Hunt” event for those that love thrifting and the thrill of “the hunt”.  Saturday started with an adorable “Trinket Tea” for children that included a storytelling session with Executive Director, Jackie Hemsworth and lots of tea and treats for children and adults alike.  The weekend was brought to an end in grand fashion with Saturday night’s “VIP Night” which included a wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction.

The grand finale of this amazing event raised just over $55,000, surpassing their goal, thanks to the event ticket sales, the jewelry purchased, and generous donations by attendees and businesses.  While we are sad to see this annual tradition come to an end, we are excited at what events may be in store for ACCESS, Inc. in 2023.

ACCESS is a women’s shelter in Akron that strives to address the plight of homeless women and children. Through its commitment to providing a holistic, safe, and supportive environment, as well as its housing, advocacy, and empowerment programs, the agency fosters the development of self-esteem and the attainment of self-sufficiency. Many women come to ACCESS because they are dealing with mental health difficulties, substance addiction, or are fleeing an abusive situation. Most of them have children and are in severe need of homes, medical treatment, and assistance. In most cases, ACCESS is able to assist these women and their families and get them on a path to success.

All proceeds from the event benefited ACCESS and its community commitment to providing a holistic, safe, and supportive environment to women and children in its shelter. Fred Martin Superstore was honored to be involved in such an amazing event, and an even more incredible organization. Thank you to all our employees who donated their gently used jewelry.
