Fred Martin Superstore Provides $10,000 Matching Gift to Help ACCESS Shelter Purchase New Ram Truck

This past May, Fred Martin Superstore in Barberton sponsored a matching donation drive in an effort to raise funds for the purchase of a brand-new 2022 Ram 1500 for Akron area charity, ACCESS Inc.  As a result of this effort, Fred Martin Superstore donated $10,000 to ACCESS and assisted with the selection, purchase, and branding of the new Ram truck.

“As ACCESS continues to evolve, there was a growing need for an additional vehicle to haul large food orders, palleted donations, building maintenance supplies, and more,” said Jackie Hemsworth, Executive Director of ACCESS Shelter. “Thanks to the generosity of Fred Martin Superstore in Barberton, Ohio, we now have a dependable truck that is dedicated to the day-to-day functions of our shelter. We hope that this new addition will improve our team’s efficiency and expand our capabilities for caring for the women and children in our shelter.”

ACCESS is a women’s shelter in Akron that strives to address the plight of homeless women and children. Through its commitment to providing a holistic, safe, and supportive environment, as well as its housing, advocacy, and empowerment programs, the agency fosters the development of self-esteem and the attainment of self-sufficiency. Many women come to ACCESS because they are dealing with mental health difficulties, substance addiction, or are fleeing an abusive situation. Most of them have children and are in severe need of housing, medical treatment, and assistance. In most cases, ACCESS is able to assist these women and their families and get them on a path to success.

Since establishing a partnership with Fred Martin Superstore in 2016, Fred Martin has donated more than $52,000 to ACCESS Shelter to help change the future for women and children experiencing homelessness.
