No matter what year Compass you get, all trim levels will come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out a decent 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This engine will get you to where you want to go with relative ease and make an excellent off-roading companion. Front-wheel-drive is the default setup, but drivers can opt for all-wheel-drive on every trim not named the Trailhawk as it comes standard. A six-speed manual transmission is available on the Sport, and the Latitude trims, but most Compasses will either come with a six-speed automatic transmission for front-wheel-drive or a nine-speed automatic for all-wheel-drive. We love this engine, and you will never be short on power!

Four trim levels are available on most years of the Compass, so that we will focus on those. The base-level trim is known as the Sport. It comes with some exciting features such as heated mirrors, automatic dual-zone climate control, height-adjustable front seats, and either a 5-inch or, in later years, a 7-inch touchscreen with a six-speaker sound system and Bluetooth streaming. Later years mixed in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Latitude takes things up a notch with alloy wheels, roof rails, rear air vents, upgraded cloth and simulated leather seat upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless ignition and entry. Additional option packages are also available depending on the year. From here, the Compass splits off into luxury and off-road features. For luxury, the Compass has the Limited trim, which has a remote engine start, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a color information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats. Additional features for the Limited include a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and a 115-volt power outlet. If you’re into off-roading, then you’re going to want to take a look at the Trailhawk, which has off-road-oriented tires, a raised suspension, skid plates, and a Selec-Terrain system that will allow the Compass to go over rugged terrain.

One of the things that we have admired over the years about the Jeep Compass is how safe a vehicle it is! Several advanced safety systems are available throughout the trim lineup or part of some option packages in later years. Available safety systems include a Blind-Spot Monitoring system that will alert you if another vehicle is trying to cross over into your lane and will allow you to make safer lane changes. Often this system is paired with a Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, which will let you know if there are other vehicles behind you. Adaptive Cruise Control is another available system and will maintain a driver-set distance between the Compass and the car ahead of you. A Forward Collision Warning system with automatic braking will let you know of an impending collision, and the Lane Keeping Assist system will let you know if you are outside of the painted lines and course-correct you back into your lane. You will never have to worry when you’re behind the wheel of the Compass.
