All-Electric Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S Announced
Learn All About Them Here!
Jeep has been hinting at a goal they’re calling “Zero Emissions Freedom” in recent years. The first phase of their pursuit of this goal was the plug-in hybrid platform named 4xe, short for four-by-electric. At Jeep 4xe Day in early September of 2022, Jeep revealed its next phase in the process to offer electric power to the entire Jeep lineup by 2025 and have 50% of all sales be fully electric by 2030. Revealed at Jeep 4xe Day were the Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S, both designed with fully electric power, providing zero emissions with 100% Jeep DNA. Continue reading below to learn more!
Jeep Recon BEV
Jeep made the Recon, pictured above, in the image of the world-renowned Wrangler, giving it removable doors and a convertible top. But the similarities between the Jeep Recon and Wrangler don’t stop there. The Recon is also designed to tackle rugged terrain using only electric power. The new electric vehicle from Jeep features e-locker axle technology, underbody skid plates, standard 4×4, Selec-Terrain, tow hooks, and aggressive all-terrain tires. This standard equipment, coupled with the electric power, earned the Recon Jeep’s coveted Trail Rated badge. To prove that the Jeep Recon is ready for the trails and that electric power shouldn’t be a concern, Jeep stated that the Recon conquered the entire Rubicon Trail in California with enough battery remaining to get back to town afterward. Customers can order a new Jeep Recon in the early months of 2023, and production will begin in 2024.
Wagoneer S BEV
The Wagoneer name returned to the automotive industry for the 2022 model year as the luxury extension of the Jeep Brand. The brand has revealed plans for the Wagoneer S, another Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Wagoneer is skipping any kind of hybrid powertrain and moving to fully electric with the Wagoneer S. Featuring a sporty, aerodynamic roofline, shape lines, and elegant edges, the Wagoneer S is sure to turn heads. You’ll also get a glass panoramic roof, a rear wind spoiler, and LED illumination on the seven-slot grille. The Wagoneer S BEV powertrain is targeting a 400-mile range, 600 horsepower, and a 3.5-second 0-60 time! The timeframe for the Wagoneer S is the same as the Jeep Recon; ordering will open in early 2023, while production will begin in 2024.
What Does Jeep Currently Offer For EVs?
Jeep’s plans for an all-electric future come as no surprise, given the current 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. Currently available for select trims of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, Jeep’s 4xe powertrain provides unrivaled fuel efficiency and capability. With a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a pair of electric motors and a rechargeable EV battery pack, there isn’t much that the Jeep 4xe lineup can’t accomplish. This system gives both the Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe a remarkable 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With no need to wait for the fuel/air mixture to ignite and get the RPMs up, the torque is sent to the wheels immediately, giving quicker 0-60 times and making crawling over rocks smoother and easier. Wrangler 4xe drivers get a total driving range of 370 miles, 21 miles of all-electric driving, and 49 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). Meanwhile, drivers of the Grand Cherokee 4xe enjoy 440 miles of total driving, 25 miles of electric driving, and 56 MPGe.
