Hellcrate Engine Package Available
Last year, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles Mopar division revealed what many have simply dubbed “Hell in a Box.” The proper name? Hellcrate! At the 2018 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Mopar unveiled a crate version of its famously powerful 707-horsepower, 6.2-Liter supercharged V8 Hellcat engine. This is the same beast-like engine that powers the Dodge Challenger Hellcat coupe, the Dodge Charger Hellcat sedan, and the Trackhawk edition of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.
The Mopar 6.2-liter Crate HEMI Engine, as it’s officially called, is being sold along with a Hellcrate Engine Kit with additional and very necessary engine components. The kit provides what FCA says is a “relatively simple plug and play” engine assembly kit for all the muscle car enthusiasts out there!
That engine component kit includes a power-train control module, power distribution center, fuel pump control module, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, and even engine oxygen sensors. The power-train control module is unlocked to allow the full factory 707- horsepower to be utilized!
The component kit also includes a front end accessory package that is also very much necessary for a successful installation. It comes with an alternator, power steering pump, belts, and more. The Hellcrate will be optimized for use with manual transmissions, steering away from the traditional automatic transmissions found on the current Challenger and Charger Hellcats. We can only imagine how much fun all that power will feel being manually controlled through a proper six-speed manual! Fitting an old car with Hellcrate muscle will end up costing about $18,530 for a new engine and another $2,195 for the required engine component kit unless you get them while they are on sale! Included in the package are in-depth information sheets full of helpful installation tips and requirement.
We know many of you are currently thinking up all kinds of crazy Frankenstein monsters you could create with the Hellcrate. Unfortunately, Mopar says the Hellcrate is only intended to be used in more vintage pre-1976 street legal vehicles. We have a feeling their “intent” won’t stop many true enthusiasts from retrofitting this outrageous engine into some pretty unique rides.
Swapping out engines is clearly not going to be a walk in the park for anyone other than a professional technician or well-practiced backyard mechanic. Fortunately, when purchased together, the Crate HEMI Engine and Engine Kit are backed with a factory three-year/unlimited mileage warranty!
This ultimate power-train option fits the needs of owners and fans who demand the iconic performance only Mopar can bring to the table! Interested in owning your own Hellcrate engine kit?
