2022 Jeep Gladiator vs Ford Ranger Akron OH
2022 Jeep Gladiator vs Ford Ranger
Drivers who are shopping for a truck tend to have high expectations, so brands are pulling all the stops to make the best truck they can. This makes it difficult to stand out in the truck class. However, with its unique open-air design, standard 4×4, and phenomenal capability, the Jeep Gladiator is a truck that never fails to stand out. Posturing itself as tough competition for the Gladiator, the Ford Ranger comes in with an array of standard and available features. Continue reading below to learn more about both of these trucks to discover the right one for you!
Power and Handling of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator
Two engines are available for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator. Standard equipment under the hood is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that pushes out a hefty 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission powering Jeep’s Command-Trac 4×4 system. This setup gives the Gladiator a towing capacity of 7,650 pounds with the proper equipment. The optional 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 sends 260 horsepower and a spectacular 442 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. While only optional on most trucks on the market, 4×4 comes standard with the Jeep Gladiator. Command-Trac 4×4 is a part-time system. This means that drivers can select two-wheel drive to maximize fuel efficiency, 4-high to maximize traction when driving on inclement road conditions like snow or loose gravel, and 4-low to maximize traction while off-roading at low speeds. While the 6-speed automatic transmission is standard for the gas engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission is available.
Power and Handling of the 2022 Ford Ranger
Although the 2022 Ranger comes with just one engine option, it certainly doesn’t come up short in the power category. Standard equipment is a 2.3L turbocharged inline-4 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. This setup provides drivers with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The optional towing package allows drivers to haul up to 7,500 pounds. While rear-wheel drive is standard, Ford offers four-wheel drive and a few packages to enhance the Ranger’s abilities beyond where the pavement ends. The Tremor Package, for example, is available for the SuperCrew 4×4 models. Tremor offers FOX shock absorbers, Ford Trail Control, Ford Terrain Management System, and all-terrain tires.
Features and Design of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator
When designing the Jeep Gladiator, they essentially took the textbook of what a truck should be and threw it out the window. Adopting the iconic front end and open-air concept from the Jeep Wrangler, the Gladiator is unlike any other truck on the market. The removable top and doors with the fold-down windshield allow you and your passengers to experience your adventures without anything between you and the world around you. Occupants are accommodated by a four-door cab, with five seats, and a five-foot truck bed with an easy-lower three-position tailgate for gear and other cargo. Other standard features include air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, interior drain plugs for easy washout, eight speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and more. Opting for a higher trim level gets you power windows and door locks, LED lighting, heated/power side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 9-speaker sound system, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.
Features and Design of the 2022 Ford Ranger
Ford took the more traditional route when it came to designing their midsize truck. The Ranger continues with its rounded shape, rectangular headlight housings, an oval grille, and steel wheels. Two body styles are available for the Ranger. Standard is the SuperCab, featuring a two-door cab in front of a six-foot bed offering just four seats. Meanwhile, the SuperCrew is optional, providing four doors, five seats, and a five-foot bed, all of which are standard equipment for the Gladiator. Other features include black fender flares and bumpers, air conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 3.5-inch touchscreen radio, and 16-inch steel wheels. Higher trim levels of the Ranger compete better with the Gladiator, offering an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, push-button ignition, keyless entry, cruise control, LED lighting, and power side mirrors.
Which Truck Comes Out On Top?
While both of these trucks have a lot to offer, only one gives drivers superior capabilities, space, and convenience. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator offers the open-air freedom from the Jeep Wrangler accompanied by a useful five-foot truck bed.
